#1 Get rid of any files you do not use. Remove them from the computer. Do the same for any documents and pictures. If you have an external USB drive you can save them to there or Copy Then to a CD or DVD. This will free hard disk space.
#2 Use the windows disk defragmenter program. What this does is to organise all the program files or put them in order and speeds up how fast windows is able to run programs. The bigger the program the faster it ill run if the hard disk drive is properly organised.
#3 Uninstall any programs you do not use. Not only do they take up space but they use your computer memory as well. Even when they are doing nothing programs use memory and having too many programs installed can bring your computer to its knees.
#4 Run a free registry scan. Each time you add or remove programs they leave registry entries which are not removed. Eventually corruption and errors creep in and this slows down windows when it starts up and when you are using it. Fixing these errors will not just speed up your computer. It will stop it from freezing, crashing and prevent it from failing to start on you. This is the most important step.
