HEUR:Trojan.Script.Generic is part of a group of virus infections which are known collectively as "rogue antivirus" programs. These are basically viruses which come disguised as antivirus tools, and are designed to do two very bad things to your PC. The first problem that these viruses cause is to infect your computer with ads, that continually try and sell you an "upgrade" to the antivirus program. Although these ads may look legitimate, it's essential you do not trust or buy from them - they are a scam. The infection also has a hidden spyware element, which will continually work to try and steal your personal details from your Internet pages.
This virus will typically install itself from the likes of Trojan Horse viruses, fake email attachments and even false antivirus scans online. The whole aim of HEUR:Trojan.Script.Generic is to "dupe" you into either buying the upgrade, or at least looking at what results it gives on your screen. Many antivirus industry experts call this infection "Malware" (malicious spyware), as it tries to display a legitimate software application in order to get you to "trust" it.
If you have this installed on your PC, you need to remove it as soon as possible, because it will cause a lot of damage if you are not careful. The problem is that this virus actually has a multitude of elements (most of which are hidden), making it extremely difficult to remove. Most people try and use a manual method to get rid of the infection, whereby they will attempt to delete the program files which the application uses to run. Although this is effective in temporarily removing the false application from your system, the issue is that there are generally a huge number of files & settings which are left on your system if you just try and remove Virus Total manually. You could try removing the virus yourself, by deleting this folder:
C:\Program Files\HEUR:Trojan.Script.Generic\
In order to completely remove this infection from your system, it's essential that you're not only able to get rid of this folder, but also the hidden files which it will continually use to steal your data. Even if you do manage to "uninstall" the HEUR:Trojan.Script.Generic application, the fact is that there will likely be a lot of hidden files which it will use to monitor your details still left on your PC. Removal of these files is essential if you want to make your computer run normally again, and to do that, it's recommended that you use an "Anti-Malware" program to get rid of this virus.
There are many legitimate anti-malware tools available to use on Windows computers, but we've found that one called XoftSpy is the most effective at removing HEUR:Trojan.Script.Generic. In order to use this tool, you should first download it from the Internet and then install it. After installation, let it scan your PC and fix the errors & infections that it finds. This will not only remove the fake application that Virus Total will install, but also the hidden files & codes which continually spy on you.
