the best way to boost PC Performance and repair lsass.exe errors

The lsass.exe error is a result of the worm virus w32.sasser. It is a vicious virus that infects your registry and reboots windows over and over. Because it reboots windows, it can be a difficult virus to fix. But don't toss your PC out in the garbage just yet. There are methods to fixing it.

Install Windows into the Same Directory

Some users have reported success by simply installing a copy of Windows over the problematic copy. Follow these simple directions to see if this is the answer for you.

o Boot from XP CD
o Choose "Install"
o Select the "re-install Windows" option
o DON'T install to a new directory
o While installing windows, it will ask you to create your system users
o Create a random user name (DON'T use any of your old user names!)
o Reboot when the system comes up
o When your computer boots, you'll go to the login screen
o Login under your original user name and go to your control panel then user settings
o Delete the random profile

Swap and Back Up Your Hard Drive

If the above solution doesn't work for you, try this second solution. If you have a second computer or a laptop, you can also connect your infected hard drive to you second PC. Then follow these steps:

o Connect your infected hard drive to your second PC
o Backup your "My Documents" (and any other unrecoverable files) to the second computer.
o On the infected hard drive, go to /windows/system32/config and rename your "system" file to "system_infected"
o On your infected hard drive, go to /windows/repair/ and copy your "system" file
o Go back to /windows/system32/config and paste in your "system" file
o Put your hard drive back into your PC and power it on
o There will be a screen, which will ask you to log-in user BUT you'll receive the error message (along the lines of), "The windows activation cannot be validated"
o Put your XP Recovery CD into the CD drive and start your PC
o Choose to start from disk
o You'll come to the XP Setup screen, where you'll choose to "Install" Windows
o When the next screen comes up, press "R" for "Repair"
o Windows will repair the system
o Your system should keep all user settings and registry information.

Format Your Hard Drive

If the above solutions don't work, then it might be more efficient to start from scratch. You can back up your important files to a second hard drive or burn them to a disk.

Once you have your files backed up, you'll want to erase your original harddrive.

WARNING: You will lose all files on the hard drive

o Insert Windows CD and restart your computer.
o Press "Enter" at the "Welcome to Setup" page
o Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement
o Bypass the repair by pressing "ESC"
o Select the partition or the unpartitioned space where you want to create a new partition. Delete an existing partition by pressing "D" or create a new partition by pressing "C"
o Type the size that you want for your new partition, press "ENTER". OR just press "ENTER" to create a maximum sized partition
o Select the partition format option that you want (Usually it's NTFS). Press "ENTER".
o After formatting the partition, follow the instructions that appear on the screen
