The Boot.Cidox program is more commonly referred to as a "malware" (malicious software) infection or "rogue antivirus" because of the way it does not do anything to protect your PC. Like many similar infections of this type, Boot.Cidox places a "front end" software program on your system, which then pretends to find & remove viruses from your system. On top of this visible infection, the virus will also have a series of infectious fake files which it will place on your hard drive. Because these files will monitor your Internet activity & try to steal your data, these are actually the biggest causes of problems with this virus, and not the main false application.
If you want to get rid of Boot.Cidox (and it's recommended that you should), you need to be able to remove not only the main fake application, but also the hidden files which are designed to steal your details. Many people make the mistake of trying to remove this infection manually, by deleting the folders you can see below. Although this may work to remove the infected program that Boot.Cidox shows on your screen, you'll never remove all elements of this infection manually - making it essential that you are able to properly remove the virus from your PC.
Many people try and remove these files to get rid of Boot.Cidox:
c:\Program Files\Boot.Cidox Software
c:\Program Files\Boot.Cidox Software\Boot.Cidox
Although removing the above files may get rid of the false application, the chances are that it will continue to cause havoc on your PC if you try and remove it in this way. To get rid of the virus in its entirety, you need to use a program called a "Anti-Malware" tool. Anti-malware programs (legitimate ones) have been designed to remove the various infectious elements of the Boot.Cidox program, and others of a similar nature. From our experimentation, we've found that a tool called XoftSpySE removes BD in the best way. This has been developed by a large Canadian company called Pareto Logic, and is extremely effective at removing all parts of the Boot.Cidox infection. You should try downloading this tool, installing it and then letting it scan & remove the various parts of the virus that it can - which should be all of it.
