There's nothing more frustrating than sitting looking at your Computer screen, while it whirrs away apparently doing nothing! It started life as top of the range, lightning fast and fun to use. Now it hangs, freezes and struggles to do the basics. Ok, dump it, get a new one... well maybe not. Take it in to the PC shop and get them to sort it out... might cost as much as a new one!
Or you can try some quick and simple speed boosting tips.
1) Defragment - Day to day usage, especially if you do much downloading from the web, leads to your hard drive files becoming fragmented. Windows operating systems all come with a defrag tool, do remember to run it regularly. If you haven't done it for a while you'll be amazed at the improved performance from this one job alone.
2) Reboot - A lot of us now use our Computers as desktop replacements, I know I've been guilty of leaving mine on for weeks on end! A simple restart at least three times a week in a sense allows it to reset and start fresh.
3) Registry Clean - A part of regular maintenance that is often overlooked, and the build up of registry errors will have a detrimental effect on many aspects of your Computers performance. A few dollars invested in a recommended registry cleaning utility will help boost speed and improve reliability.
4) Upgrade RAM - Probably one of the most likely reasons for a Computer running slow is a simple lack of enough memory. With Windows Vista being such a resource hog, trying to run other large unwieldy programs at the same time becomes very difficult. Luckily, adding more RAM is a fairly easy, not too expensive fix that will last a long time.
5) Turn off Indexing - Most of us don't make use of this built-in Windows file search, so why waste resources on it?
6) Start Up Programs - Take a look at what you have running at start up, and take out those programs you don't really need, again don't waste resources on unnecessary programs.
7) Disk CleanUp - Use the system tools regularly to keep your Computer clutter free, and able to perform at it's optimum. Of course there are also some obvious things I haven't mentioned, no doubt you already have an up to date anti-virus program, you regularly run anti-malware programs and clear out your cache and cookies now and then. Don't you?
